How to Make Batik For Beginners

Batik is one of Indonesian craft artwork that can be done by anyone. What distinguishes only persistence and patience when making batik design itself. For beginners, they can start by learning batik.

Batik craft has existed and inherited by our ancestors in the State Indonesia. The process of making batik is a process that requires technique, precision, and patience. This is caused by everything the manufacturing process is done manually by using skilled human hand (written) without using the engine. Because the technique is done manually, the price batik is one of the most expensive types of batik from all kinds of batik in Indonesia. If the fabrics used are silk, silk batik cloth then write the most expensive of all batik cloth in the world.

The combination of silk that has been known to be expensive with the technical process of making it is written manually without using the machine, make batik silk is hunted by the executive to show the prestige class. The process of making batik is not uncommon to take up to 1 month workmanship. Especially if the fabrics used are silk, which requires special treatment because of the characteristic techniques on fabric. Before we learn the technique of batik making, we should know the ingredients used in the process of making batik. Equipment and materials must be prepared as follows:

After all the tools are ready, then learn to make batik step for beginners are as follows:

1. The first step is to design batik commonly called molani. In determining the motive, usually each person has different tastes. Some prefer to make their own motives, but others prefer to follow the common motifs that have been there. Motif that is often used in Indonesian batik itself is divided into two: the classic batik, which is a lot to play with symbols and coastal batik with natural characteristic such as pictures of flowers and butterflies. 2. After completing the molani, the second step is to paint the (wax) night using a canting (caged / dicantangi) by following the pattern.
 
3. The next stage, covered with wax parts will remain white (colorless). Canting for smooth passage, or a brush for large-sized parts. The goal is that when dipping the material into the dye solution, part of which was given a wax layer is not exposed.

4. The next stage is the first coloring process on the part that is not covered by wax by dipping the cloth in a certain color.
5. Once dipped, the cloth in the sun and dried.
6. Once dry, re-do the batik process is painting with wax using canting to cover parts that will be retained in the first coloring.
7. Then, proceed with a second color dyeing process.
8. The next process, removing wax from the fabric by putting the cloth with hot water on the stove.
9. After a clean cloth of candles and dried, can be carried back to the closing of wax batik process (using canting) to hold the first and second color.
10. The process of opening and closing the wax can be repeated according to the number of colors and the complexity of the desired motif.
11. The next process is nglorot, wherein the fabric has changed the color of boiled hot water. The aim is to remove the layer of wax, so the motif that has been previously drawn clearly visible. You do not need to worry, this immersion will not make you an image motif that has been exposed to a color, because the top of the cloth is still shrouded in a thin layer (wax is not completely washed out). After completion, the batik is ready for use.
12. The final process is to wash the batik cloth and then dry with a dry them before it can be used and worn.
